Yahoo's Geocities will be closing on the 26th of this month, which will terminate a lot of old internet junk as well as useful sites. My site will be going, too, so I've moved my stuff over to Freewebs so as to allow for the freeware to still be used.

Check it out at: calochortus.webs.com/

So I haven't been doing much in the creative realms (unless you consider TN5 mutagenesis creative....), but I have been scoping out green and generally good sites, like goodsearch.com and isearchigive.com. However, the best sites are seriously the game sites -- I love freerice.com, but my current obsession is everywun.com. Everywun is a site that uses a point system to reward users by donating to various causes -- from planting trees to feeding people! I'm currently trying to get the highest reward -- a mosquito net for folks in malaria-prone regions. You get points from doing quizzes, receiving a newsletter, and inviting friends. They even have a little badge that you can post wherever:

Yay! Did I mention all of this is free? Playing games and doing good for the world! Yay!

Yeah. Uh. I'm on Poupeegirl. It's the cutest thing ever, and it's really helped me appreciate the stuff I have. ....I don't think that's what it's supposed to be about (it's about being....fashionable?), but it makes me happy to post pictures of my really old stuff and realize that they're.... kind of stylish. If that makes sense.
happy!

That's my Poupee. Her name's Joey and she can be found
here.

Yay! I'm posting here because I like to put up a lot of handmade stuff on Pupe -- my latest item there was some facial toner I'd made. So yeah! I think it's cool that they have a "handmade" section for each item category, too.
Anyway, Poupeegirl is here:

I won the nanowrimo.org challenge for the last four years. It has always been mind-numbingly fun staying up too late and torturing my characters with more weirdness than anyone would ever think possible. However, since I'm doing some of the most mind-numbingly boring lab work ever, I don't exactly have time... I don't even have time to do homework nowadays, so I highly doubt that I'll be able to even think about what to do if I wanted to write.

I guess that I need to write this so I can state that I won't start before I get in and fail at everything at once. Bye, NaNo. It's been great for the last four years, but for at least the next two, we won't be doing stuff together. While I'm sure that my characters will be annoying me at the weirdest times with the weirdest problems, I just don't know if I'll even survive for the next week.

Punkette4vab just made me this awesome layout. It's so cool -- and so tacky! It's supposed to be tacky, as it uses Fujii Takashi from his PV "Oh My Juliet!"

See? I'm super happy with this layout, and Punkette4vab is so cool! I feel bad, though, because I haven't finished any of the giftart I swore I'd make for her....

I have a tendency to acquire earrings in vast quantities for no apparent reason. That being said, I also find it easy to make earrings that I seriously love.

Star earrings

I seriously love these star beads. I made another set for my mother that had only one star per side, too.

Primary Heart Earrings

The heart beads were salvaged from some really old little girl barettes that were falling apart. I still have some more -- maybe a matching necklace would be good?

I've since put diary keys on the chains -- very cute! I promise, I'll try not to post more of these next time.... maybe.

I made this in my ceramics class, too!

Tree Mug

The glaze didn't turn out quite like I wanted, but I like it! Yay! Oh... Also, the handle kind of pulled away from the cup portion on the bottom, so it's more a pot than a mug now.... But! Anyway! It makes a lovely flower pot.

*Note~ I'm still working on my jsk! I'm still on my zipper, too..... Eheh. I can't find my sewing machine's zipper foot... so I'm a bit stuck....

Just so everyone will remember what you are:

Sweet pin

If that isn't enough, you can tell them more: ) This upcoming week is dead week -- so everyone had everything due this week. Yeah. Bleah. I only have one final, but I do have a lab exam and a presentation, too... so... Nnnh. I'm still working on the jsk -- gotten to the zipper.... but.... nnnh.

This is my last semester, so I get to take fun classes! One of those is beginning ceramics -- I've learned so much in that class, and one of the many things has been how to use a ceramics wheel. It's a lot harder than it looks! But once you get the gist of it all, it's really fun! I don't have everything, but here are most of the things I've made thus far:

First off, Spring break has started! I'm planning on using Lamby's Lolita jsk tutorial to make a jumpskirt out of this material -- if it's cute and not.... uh, horrific, I'll try my hand at dressing like a cute little English girl. If not, I'll stay a hapadesimycologygeek.

Speaking of loli, I made these guys a long, long time ago:
Photobucket

The fabric is a remnant from Joann's, and I still have some left, even after making those and two of these:

Butterfly camo cuff

I love cuffs like these, and the applique butterfly clip just makes it more fun to wear (Though I think some of my classmates think I'm a weirdo for wearing these kinds of things...).

So! Think kindly of me as I start my downward spiral into laces and bows and pettipants and rockinghorses and cakes and strawberries!

I seriously love pins. They brighten almost anything! I have quite a few new pins that I've just made out of old trinkets, so I'll be getting those up, too. Anyway, here:
Angel Pin
I made this with instructions at a church craft workshop. Yay! ...It's supposed to be an angel -- so why are the wings shaped like a butterfly's? Idano. But I like them like that.

I can't stand to throw things like this away. So they become weird upcycled stuff.

Key to my botanical heart

People in my department think I'm so cool, with matching jewelry and all -- they don't realize I'm really just kind of weird.

Long, long ago (September), my sister magically got older. So, with joy at her agedness, I made her this tote bag. She's really into pinkxblack as well as plaid. So...

Bag for sister!

Bag for sister!

My mother is one of those insanely amazing bag-makers, so she helped me -- no pattern, just pure love! I added a bow made from scrap material, too.

Bow for sister!

My mother had made a babydoll shirt for my sister out of this same material, and it was handed down to me. I put the bow on just because I wanted to give them together, but my sister likes them to be together.

Bag for.... mascot?

And I seriously need a name for this guy. I've been looking around, and.... well, suggestions would be nice.

I kind of gave an introduction to myself in the post before, but I really didn't go into much. So. Artsy-craft-wise, I like bright colors and happy textures -- however, I also tend toward minimalist and lolita-fashion-esque creations.

My mother started me on crafts when I was very young -- we were poor, so instead of going out and buying uber-expensive clothes for us kids, she sewed for us. There were very few Christmases or Easters where we had boring old store-bought dresses. She's still the best seamstress I know -- she knows how to choose the perfect fabric and notions, is neat and tidy with her space, conserves as much as she can, and always produces quality work. I think there was only one outfit I ever ripped (it was a purple houndstooth babydolldress shirt); otherwise, everything's still strong and ready to wear (if only I were a kid again...)

She's teaching me right now.... but.... uhmm.... I hate patterns. Yeah... She also taught me how to knit, and I'm rather.... uhhhmmm.... obssessed. I'm learning increases right now (if you have any tips on those, please tell!), and I'm pretty confident with standard pattern reading.

My father's taught me lots of art technique, too -- he crochets, and he's taught me at least the basics. I'm not much for crocheting (I need more practice!), but I know that I'll pick it up again (I want to do the cute amigurumi animals!).

So hi there. Uhm. Yeah. Well! Anyway, onto my first ware!

I made a cosmetic bag for my sister this Christmas, so I figured out how to make a 1-topstitch bag. It was... relatively easy. Once she lets me take pictures, I'll get that one up.... otherwise, I've made this one for my button stash:

Photobucket

detail shots! )

....I like color. And fruit. I have two more that I did while during this one, and I just need to get snaps and buttons on them -- then I'll post them, too!

I was thinking of making a New Year's resolution to start a blog -- but then I realized that my life is pretty boring.

Yeah. However, I've seen a lot of art/craft/DIY blogs around, so I'm thinking that doing something like that would be a good way to go.

So. Hi. I'm PhDeath. I'm a pixel artist/femiknitter/sewing person. I'm taking a ceramics class this upcoming semester, trying to make a sweet lolita dress at the moment, and perpetually trying to finish random pixel art and knitting pieces. So. yeah. Happy New Year, all!
